A field visit has been planned on Saturday 25th October 2014 and three sites have been selected: Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru and Arusha National Park.
Participants will be allocated to sites according to their flight schedules because most will leave Arusha in the evening of the same day. In this regards, would you like to visit a remote site such as Kilimanjaro, please make sure your flight is set well late in the evening or consider staying another night in Arusha (not to be sponsored by the organizers).
The field visit will be a good opportunity for participants to break out after the tense three days of the forum packed with highly engaging sessions, discussions, and side meetings. Furthermore, the sites have been selected so as to allow visiting participants to internalize the many issues that will have been discussed during the forum such as the importance of mountains as touristic attractions, originality of mountain communities, and threats specific to mountain environments.
The activities to be carried out while on the field will depend on the site selected. Those who will chose Mount Meru will have an opportunity to climb the mountain and those who will visit Arusha National Park and Kilimanjaro will enjoy the work in the mountain forest and use the opportunity to discuss mountains' issues.
The equipment and recommended garments for the field will depend on the site chosen but in general a hat and good walking shoes are highly recommended. Hiking poles will be provided to those in need a
The field visit is personal. Participants will cover the visit fees themselves while the organisers will cover the transport from the hotel to the field. While completing the registration process on this website, participants are asked to confirm whether they will participate in the filed visit and those who choose yes will ensure to be able to cover the visit fee. Depending on the destination that will be chosen, participants who have registered for the field visit will be communicated the amount of visit fee that is required.
